Rita’s Tips For Houseplant Week

My plants really brighten up my space, and I think it’s important to give some love back by taking good care of them.

Hi everyone, it’s Rita from the Juno Team!

Ever since I started working from home, I’ve amassed a pretty big plant collection. When I first got my plants, it was a pretty steep learning curve trying to figure out how to take care of them properly. For Houseplant Week, I wanted to share just a few of the tips that have been working for me!

  1. When to water

I tend to be pretty bad at remembering to water my plants on particular days of the week, so I usually just assess which plants need to be watered whenever I remember to check on my collection. Using your index finger, you can test the soil in each pot to see how much moisture is in it. If the soil feels dry and flakey, that’s usually a sign that your plant needs watering!

  1. What to do for neglected plants

If you sometimes forget to water your plants for a while, and you’ve ended up with extreme dehydration, it can take some skill to revive your green friends. When that happens to me, I like to fill a mixing bowl or another receptacle with a few inches of water, then let my super dry plants soak from the bottom up. I’ve found that this helps them look healthier much faster than just watering from the top! If you have some spare time, you can also give them some extra fertiliser for a growth boost.

  1. Regular spritzing

Another thing I love to do is give all of my plants some regular spritzes of water. I have a dedicated spray bottle, but you can always just reuse old cleaning supply bottles, etc. This helps add some humidity for the plants, which helps them retain their moisture. Plus, once you’re done spritzing, you can wipe the leaves down with a cloth to keep them nice and shiny.

My plants really brighten up my space, and I think it’s important to give some love back by taking good care of them.
